Add a GIA laboratory report to any ruby or sapphire you buy from Thai Gems that isn't already certified. We handle submission, tracking and return of the stone.

This service is for ruby and sapphire only. Diamonds are not covered.

Why GIA

The Gemological Institute of America issues the most widely recognised gemstone report in the world, and the one that carries the most weight at resale or auction. It takes longer and costs more than a Bangkok laboratory, and for a stone you intend to hold or resell it is usually worth it.

The two reports

  • Identification Report: species and variety, plus detection of any treatments.
  • Identification & Origin Report: everything above, plus GIA's opinion on the stone's geographic origin.

Choosing your weight band

GIA prices by carat weight, so select the band your stone falls into. If you are unsure of the exact weight, choose the band you believe is correct and we will confirm it with you before submitting.

Stones of 20.00 ct and above are quoted individually — please contact us before ordering.

How it works

  1. Add this certification service to your cart alongside the stone you're buying.
  2. We submit the stone to GIA on your behalf.
  3. The stone ships to you together with its report once issued.

Please note

  • GIA turnaround is longer than the Bangkok laboratories and varies with their workload. We will give you an estimate at the time of submission.
  • A laboratory report states what the stone is. Neither we nor GIA can guarantee a particular result, including a specific origin. Origin determination is an expert opinion, and GIA will sometimes return an inconclusive origin.
  • Certification fees are non-refundable once a stone has been submitted to the laboratory.
  • Prefer a faster, lower-cost Bangkok report? See our Certification — Ruby & Sapphire Lab Reports listing for GBI and AGL Thai options.
